Sharm El Sheikh—a name that instantly brings to mind crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and endless sunshine. Known as one of Egypt’s most famous resort towns, it’s a diving paradise and a haven for sun-seekers. But is it a good destination for families with young kids?

A Quick Look at Sharm El Sheikh’s History & Importance
Before we get into the day-to-day experiences, let’s take a quick step back—because Sharm El Sheikh isn’t just a beach resort; it has a fascinating history, too.
A Strategic Location on the Red Sea
Sharm El Sheikh is located on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, right where the Red Sea meets the Gulf of Aqaba. It’s not just famous for its beaches—historically, this region has been a critical point of trade, religion, and conflict.
For centuries, this area was part of ancient trade routes linking Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Even today, its strategic position means it remains an important location for international relations and tourism.
From Military Zone to Luxury Resort
- In the 1950s-70s, Sharm El Sheikh was actually a military-controlled zone due to conflicts between Egypt and Israel.
- After the 1979 Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty, it was returned to Egypt and began transforming into a tourist destination.
- Over the next few decades, divers and travelers from all over the world discovered the area, and soon it became one of the world’s top beach and diving destinations.
What Sharm El Sheikh is Known For Today
- World-class diving and snorkeling at Ras Mohammed National Park & Tiran Island.
- Luxurious resorts and all-inclusive hotels that cater to every type of traveler.
- Desert safaris and Bedouin experiences in the Sinai Desert.
- A blend of modern tourism and traditional Egyptian culture in places like the Old Market.
We didn’t come to Sharm for the history—but knowing the stories behind the place made our experience even richer. It’s not just a beautiful vacation spot; it’s a place with layers of history that shaped it into what it is today.
Now, onto our journey, starting with the moment we landed…
Our Itinerary – 8 Days in Sharm El Sheikh with Kids(safari, lounge, snorkel)
(Each day’s experiences will be expanded in detail below.)
- Day 1: Beach time & exploring the Old Town Market (“Not every trip is all sunshine and rainbows—our first day came with some unexpected challenges!”).
- Day 2: Relaxed beach day – sandcastles, swimming, and slowing down.
- Day 3: A “free” bus tour of the city – what we learned, the unexpected stops, and whether it’s worth it.
- Day 4: Another beach day, because sometimes that’s all you need.
- Day 5: Exploring the area near our hotel, another beach session, and an evening at Farsha Café.
- Day 6: A desert safari adventure – camels, quads, and Bedouin tea under the stars.
- Day 7 & 8: Our hidden gem discovery – El Fanar Beach & Del Mar Beach Lounge (“This is the one place we wish we’d found sooner!”).
Day 1: Settling In – Beach Time & the Old Town Market
Not every travel day is all sunshine and rainbows.
Bennett was exhausted, overstimulated, and adjusting to the new environment. Between the long flight, the airport hassle, and the heat, he was not in the mood for adventure. And honestly? That’s okay. Traveling with kids isn’t about forcing them into experiences—it’s about finding a rhythm that works for everyone.
So, we took it slow.
Morning – First Beach Day
With zero plans, we decided to start our day by just hanging out by the beach. The best part about Sharm is that you don’t need fancy excursions for kids to have fun—sand, water, and a couple of beach toys were all they needed.
Highlights of the morning:
- Sandcastle-building competitions (spoiler: the kids won).
- Watching Bennett dip his toes in the sea and slowly get braver.
- Collecting seashells to “bring home” (which somehow never actually make it home).
By lunchtime, everyone was in a much better mood. The fresh sea air, splashing in the water, and just being together in the moment had already started working its magic.
Evening – Exploring the Old Town Market
After an afternoon rest, we decided to check out the Old Town Market—one of the most famous spots in Sharm El Sheikh.
What we expected:
- A lively, colorful market full of souvenirs, local crafts, and street food.
- A glimpse into real Egyptian life, beyond the tourist-heavy resorts.
What we experienced:
- A sensory overload—bright fabrics, exotic spices, the scent of grilled meats, and shopkeepers calling out from every direction.
- A mix of touristy stalls and more authentic local shops.
- A stunning moment—the call to prayer echoing from the mosque at sunset, creating an atmosphere we’ll never forget.
After wandering through the lively streets, we decided to sit down for drinks in the Old Town Square—and that turned out to be the perfect decision.
With a clear view of Al Sahaba Mosque, we watched as the sky shifted into warm sunset hues, the grand domes and intricate architecture bathed in golden light. And just as we settled in, the adhan (call to prayer) began to fill the air.
It was one of those rare, unplanned travel moments where everything just aligned perfectly. The kids were calm, the air was warm, and for a few peaceful minutes, we just soaked in the beauty of the moment.
What We Learned on Day 1
- Slow travel is key. Instead of packing in activities, we let the day flow naturally, which made a huge difference.
- Not every moment will be Instagram-perfect. Kids have big emotions, and that’s part of the journey.
- Markets with kids are an adventure. You can’t expect them to appreciate every little detail, but they will pick up on the energy, sounds, and excitement.
- Sometimes, the best moments are the unplanned ones. That quiet sunset, the mosque in the background, and the distant hum of the city around us—it’s a moment we’ll always remember.
We ended the night with a quiet walk back to the hotel, tired but feeling that deep satisfaction that comes with the first full day of a trip.
Day 2: A Simple but Perfect Beach Day
After the excitement (and occasional chaos) of our first full day, we decided to dedicate the second day to something simple—just a relaxing beach day with no plans, no schedules, and no pressure to be anywhere at a certain time.
One of the best things about traveling with kids is realizing that they don’t need big, elaborate experiences to have a great time. Sometimes, all they want is sand between their toes, water to splash in, and space to run free.
Morning – Slow Starts and Seaside Play
We started the day with a slow breakfast at the hotel, watching the early sun cast golden reflections on the water. The kids were already eager to get to the beach, so we packed up a few essentials—sunscreen, towels, water, snacks, and their favorite beach toys—and headed straight for the shore.
From the moment we arrived, they were in their element.
What the kids loved most:
- Digging trenches and filling them with water
- Burying each other’s legs in the sand
- Chasing tiny fish in the shallow waters
- Running up to us excitedly with their latest “treasure” (usually a shell or a cool-looking rock)
Bennett, especially, was becoming more comfortable in the water. While the previous day had been all about dipping his toes and cautiously testing the waves, today he was splashing confidently, wading in deeper, and even attempting little floating exercises. It was a small but meaningful change—one of those little milestones that seem insignificant but feel huge when you see it happening in real time.
Afternoon – Beach Picnics and the Art of Doing Nothing
Lunchtime rolled around, and instead of heading back to the hotel, we decided to have a beach picnic.
We found a shady spot under a palm tree, spread out a towel, and pulled out our food—fresh fruit, sandwiches, and a few snacks we had picked up the day before. Eating by the water, with nothing but the sound of the waves and occasional laughter of other beachgoers, was one of those moments that reminded us why we love traveling as a family.
The rest of the afternoon was spent napping on beach towels, reading, and just soaking up the peaceful atmosphere.
We didn’t realize it at the time, but these were the moments we would remember most from the trip.
Evening – Sunset Stroll and Early Nights
As the sun began to lower, the temperature cooled slightly, making it the perfect time for a slow walk along the shoreline.
The sky turned into a blend of deep oranges and soft purples, reflecting beautifully on the water. The kids ran ahead, their footprints trailing behind them in the wet sand, giggling as they dodged the incoming waves.
After a full day of fresh air and nonstop activity, exhaustion started setting in. Instead of pushing ourselves to do more, we decided to call it an early night.
Back at the hotel, after warm showers and cozy pajamas, the kids fell asleep almost instantly. And honestly, we weren’t far behind them.
What We Learned on Day 2
- Sometimes, the simplest days end up being the most memorable.
- Kids don’t need fancy activities—just space to explore, play, and be in the moment.
- Beach picnics are underrated. There’s something about eating outside, in the sand, that makes everything taste better.
- Watching a sunset over the ocean is one of the best ways to end a day, no matter where you are.
This day reminded us why we love slow travel. No rushing, no checklists—just being together, appreciating the little things, and letting the day unfold naturally.
Day 3: The “Free” City Bus Tour – Was It Worth It?
After two slow, relaxing days at the beach, we decided to switch things up and explore more of Sharm El Sheikh beyond the resorts. The hotel offered a “free” city tour, which sounded like a great way to get an overview of the area.
Spoiler alert: it wasn’t exactly what we expected.
These kinds of tours are always a gamble. Sometimes they offer genuine insights into a destination; other times, they turn into a long series of sales pitches. We went in with an open mind, but by the end of the day, we had mixed feelings about whether it was actually worth it.
Morning – The Start of the Tour
We boarded the air-conditioned tour bus provided by the hotel, along with a mix of other travelers. The guide greeted us warmly and outlined the itinerary:
- A quick drive through the city
- Stops at famous landmarks
- Shopping opportunities (which, in hindsight, should have been a red flag)
At first, it all seemed straightforward. We were excited to see more of local life, hear about the city’s culture, and maybe even pick up some history along the way.
But then… we got to our first stop.
Stop 1 – The Unity Globe Monument
Our first stop was at a large globe-shaped monument, known as the Unity Globe, located near El Salam Road.
It was an interesting structure, designed to represent global unity and international cooperation, though there wasn’t much to do beyond taking a few pictures.
However, the surrounding view was stunning—the rugged mountains in the distance contrasted beautifully against the clear sky, creating a dramatic landscape.
While the monument itself wasn’t particularly breathtaking, the stop gave us a quick chance to stretch our legs and take in a different side of Sharm El Sheikh—one that was less about beaches and more about its modern cityscape.
It was a quick visit, and soon enough, we were back on the bus.
Stop 2 – Al Salam Mosque
Our next stop was at Al Salam Mosque, located in the heart of Sharm El Sheikh.
Unlike the grand and heavily photographed Al Sahaba Mosque, Al Salam was simpler but had an understated beauty that made it feel more connected to everyday life in the city.
The mosque’s elegant white domes, golden details, and symmetrical design stood out against the blue sky. As we walked around the courtyard, our guide shared a bit about Islamic traditions and how prayer times shape the rhythm of daily life.
It was a peaceful and culturally rich stop, offering a much-needed break from the touristy side of Sharm.
Stop 3 – The “Essential Oils” & Perfume Store
This was the moment we started realizing what kind of tour we were really on.
Instead of heading to another historical site or scenic viewpoint, we were dropped off at a shop selling Egyptian perfumes, essential oils, and all kinds of “healing” products.
At first, it seemed like a typical tourist stop. The shop owner gave a talk about traditional Egyptian scents, explaining how Lotus Oil was used by the pharaohs, how Jasmine Oil was considered an ancient beauty secret, and the supposed health benefits of different oils.
Then came the sales tactics.
- The staff started placing items in our basket without asking.
- They were insistent on us buying something, even if we weren’t interested.
- We were taken upstairs into another section, where a long row of women stood silently in the corridor, pressed against the walls. It felt like something straight out of a movie—unnerving and surreal.
By this point, we expected sales tactics—it was a “free” tour, after all—but shame on them for taking people’s time like this. They didn’t just make a sales pitch; they dragged us through an entire hours-long shopping trap.
We were losing patience, but the tour wasn’t over yet.
Stop 4 – The “Bazaar” That Wasn’t What We Expected
The tour guide excitedly announced that we were headed to a bazaar, which sounded promising. We pictured a lively market filled with stalls, handcrafted goods, and a glimpse into local trade.
The reality? Another highly commercialized shopping center, featuring:
- A papyrus shop that had nothing to do with historical papyrus-making—just another sales stop.
- Souvenir shops selling mass-produced items at inflated prices.
- Leather goods and jewelry stores with persistent staff trying to get us to buy something.
We walked around, hoping to find something more authentic, but it was clear that this was designed purely for tourists.
We left feeling disappointed—this was not the kind of cultural experience we had been hoping for.
Final Stop – Back to the Hotel (Finally!)
At this point, the only thing we wanted was to be done with this tour.
There were no additional scenic stops, no historical landmarks—just the long bus ride back to our hotel.
Was the “Free” Tour Worth It?
Pros:
- The Unity Globe Monument & Al Salam Mosque were interesting stops.
- The guide was friendly and shared some cultural insights.
- It was an easy way to explore the city without arranging transportation.
Cons:
- It took up hours of our time that we could have spent doing something more meaningful.
- Most of the stops were designed for sales, not sightseeing.
- The perfume store experience was uncomfortable, with overly aggressive sales tactics.
- The bazaar was not authentic, just another shopping center.
Would we do it again? Absolutely not. Next time, we’d rather hire a private driver or take a DIY city tour to focus on the places we actually want to see.
That being said, it was still an experience—and a lesson in what to avoid when booking “free” tours in tourist-heavy destinations.
Day 4: Another Relaxing Beach Day
After the disappointment of the previous day’s “free” tour, we knew exactly what we wanted for Day 4—a slow, peaceful day by the beach. No schedules, no sales pitches, just the sun, sand, and sea.
One of the best things about visiting Sharm El Sheikh with kids is that you don’t need to constantly plan activities to keep them entertained. The beach itself is the ultimate playground, and after the previous day’s hustle, it felt good to just let go and enjoy.
Morning – Falling Into a Rhythm
By Day 4, we had fully settled into the flow of slow travel.
We had our morning routine down—a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, the kids running to the buffet like they were on a mission, piling their plates with fresh fruit and pastries. Then, we packed up our now well-worn beach bag (sunscreen, towels, water, beach toys) and made our way to the shore.
The beach felt even quieter than before. Maybe it was the time of day, maybe it was just luck, but we found the perfect shady spot near the water and claimed it for the day.
What the kids loved most:
- Building an entire “sand city”—not just a castle, but roads, tunnels, and even a moat.
- Digging a “hot tub”—where they sat in the warm sand and let the waves fill it up.
- Our eldest growing more confident in the water—wading in deeper, attempting little floating exercises, and practicing holding his breath underwater.
As parents, there’s something special about watching a child grow more comfortable with the ocean. One day, it’s just splashing at the shore. The next, they’re diving under waves and refusing to come out.
Afternoon – The Art of Doing Nothing
By lunchtime, we realized we didn’t even want to go back to the hotel. Instead, we decided to have another beach picnic—fresh fruit, sandwiches, and whatever snacks we had leftover from breakfast.
This was one of those moments where we really appreciated not overplanning the trip.
Instead of rushing off to an excursion or following an itinerary, we could just sit, eat, and enjoy the moment.
For the next few hours, we did a whole lot of nothing—which turned out to be exactly what we needed.
Somehow, doing nothing felt like doing everything.
Evening – Sunset and a Walk Near the Hotel
As the afternoon stretched into the evening, we packed up and took a slow walk along the beach near the hotel.
The sky was turning shades of deep orange and purple, and the waves had that golden shimmer you only see at sunset. The kids ran ahead, collecting seashells and splashing in the shallow water.
There’s something magical about walking along the shore as the sun sets, feeling the warm breeze and watching the sky change colors.
Back at the hotel, we enjoyed a quiet dinner and an early night. After a full day of fresh air, sand, and swimming, the kids were asleep before we even turned the lights off.
What We Learned on Day 4
- You don’t have to “do” something every day for it to be special. Sometimes, the best days are the ones where you just exist in the moment.
- Kids don’t need much to have a great time. A bucket, some sand, and the ocean are more than enough.
- Beach picnics are underrated. No rush, no waiting for food service, just eating with your toes in the sand.
- Sunset walks are the perfect way to end the day. Nothing feels more peaceful than watching the colors change over the water while the world slows down around you.
This was the kind of day that reminded us why we love traveling as a family.
It wasn’t packed with sightseeing or adrenaline-fueled activities, but it was perfect in its own way.
Day 5: Exploring Near Our Hotel & Farsha Café at Night
By this point in the trip, we had fully settled into the rhythm of slow mornings, relaxed beach days, and spontaneous adventures. Day 5 was a mix of everything—a quiet morning near the hotel, another beach session, and an evening visit to Farsha Café, one of the most famous spots in Sharm El Sheikh.
Morning – Exploring Near the Hotel
Instead of heading straight to the beach, we decided to take a slow walk near the hotel and see what was around.
It was one of those moments where you realize just how different the energy is outside the resort bubble.
- We passed by local markets, small restaurants, and coffee shops, a reminder that there’s a whole city beyond the tourist areas.
- The streets were a blend of modern development and older, more traditional buildings, showing Sharm’s transition from a simple fishing village to a luxury resort town.
- The warm, dry air carried a mix of spices, fresh bread, and the salty breeze from the Red Sea.
We didn’t have a set destination, but the simple act of walking, observing, and feeling the local vibe made this morning feel different from the others.
Eventually, we made our way back to the hotel, ready for more time at the beach. We caught a taxi for $6, which was a quick and convenient ride back.
Afternoon – One More Beach Session
Even though we had spent multiple days at the beach by now, it still hadn’t lost its magic.
- Our eldest continued to gain confidence in the water, attempting longer floats and tiny “dives” under the surface.
- The little ones were busy filling buckets with water, pouring it out, and repeating the process endlessly.
- The golden sand was hot under our feet, but the cool water was the perfect escape.
One thing we loved about this part of Sharm El Sheikh was that even though it’s a popular tourist destination, the beaches never felt overcrowded.
After a few hours of playing, swimming, and lounging under the sun, we headed back to the hotel to get ready for our evening adventure—Farsha Café.
Evening – Farsha Café: Instagram Hype or Worth It?
If you’ve ever searched for Sharm El Sheikh on Instagram, chances are Farsha Café was one of the first places you saw. Known for its bohemian vibes, breathtaking views, and unique decor, it’s one of the most popular spots in the city.
We were curious—was it really worth the hype?
We headed there before sunset, hoping to enjoy the views before it got too crowded.
First Impressions of Farsha Café
- The setting was unreal. Perched on a rocky hillside overlooking the Red Sea, the café had one of the best views in Sharm.
- The decor was unlike anything else—a mix of vintage furniture, colorful lanterns, and cozy seating areas, all blending together in a way that felt both random and intentional.
- The atmosphere was buzzing—even before dark, the place was already packed with people.
As we made our way through, we quickly realized something important—there’s a system to getting a seat, and it’s not as straightforward as just walking in.
The Seating System – What You Need to Know
- The most famous Instagram-worthy spots are downstairs, but access is controlled.
- We had to wait for a ticket, get it stamped, and then we could go down—but it was already full.
- Since we were with the kids, we had to stay upstairs, as the downstairs area is more relaxed and allows shisha smoking, drinks, and large groups.
It wasn’t a big issue for us, but if you’re traveling with kids, keep in mind that you might not get access to the most talked-about sections of the café.
Food, Drinks & Pricing at Farsha Café
We decided to order a mix of food and drinks:
✅ Four margarita pizzas
✅ Fresh large fruit juices
✅ Two cocktails
✅ Six beers
The food was surprisingly really good—much better than we expected from a place that’s mostly known for its atmosphere.
The total cost? Around 80 British pounds (~100 USD). Considering the location and experience, it felt like a fair price.
The service was also outstanding—despite how busy the café was, the staff were friendly, attentive, and quick.
What If You Can’t Find a Seat at Farsha Café?
Farsha Café is incredibly popular, which means that getting a seat—especially in the prime sunset hours—can be a challenge.
Tip: If you cannot find a seat at Farsha Café, don’t leave disappointed! There are two excellent alternatives nearby:
- Santorini Restaurant & Café – Inspired by Greek aesthetics, this restaurant offers a peaceful atmosphere with similar sea views. The white and blue décor feels straight out of Greece, making it a great spot for a relaxed evening. (View on Foursquare)
- Sadiki Café – Located in close proximity to Farsha, Sadiki offers a variety of café-style dishes and drinks in a quieter, more laid-back environment. It’s a great option if you want to avoid the crowds. (View on TripAdvisor)
By supporting these restaurants, you not only get amazing food and a similar view, but you also help smaller businesses that often get overshadowed by the big names.
Was Farsha Café Worth the Hype?
What We Loved:
✔️ The atmosphere and views were incredible—definitely a unique experience.
✔️ The food and drinks were better than expected.
✔️ The bohemian, vintage decor made the whole place feel magical, especially as the lights switched on after sunset.
What Could Have Been Better:
✖️ It’s not super family-friendly. While we had a great time, the best seating is reserved for adults or those ordering shisha.
✖️ It gets extremely busy. If you don’t arrive early, you might have to wait a long time for a seat.
✖️ The seating system is confusing if you don’t know about it beforehand.
Overall, it’s definitely worth visiting—but if you’re traveling with kids, manage your expectations. It’s more of a chilled-out, adult-friendly space rather than a family-friendly café.
What We Learned on Day 5
- A simple morning walk can be just as memorable as an excursion. Exploring the area near the hotel gave us a different perspective on Sharm El Sheikh.
- No matter how many times you visit the beach, kids will always find new ways to play. Sand and water are truly the best entertainment.
- Farsha Café is worth experiencing, but it’s not the most family-friendly spot. If you’re visiting with kids, it’s still enjoyable, but don’t expect access to all areas.
- If you can’t find a seat at Farsha, check out Santorini or Sadiki Café. They offer similar views, great food, and a more peaceful experience.
Final Thoughts on the Day
This day was the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure.
We started with a simple morning exploring, spent the afternoon by the sea, and ended the night somewhere completely different—surrounded by vintage decor, good food, and the glow of lanterns at Farsha Café.
Day 6: Desert Safari Adventure – The Most Exciting Day!
Eager to experience the rugged beauty of the Sinai Desert, we booked a Desert Safari Adventure through GetYourGuide with the local operator Square Safari. This excursion promised a mix of adrenaline-pumping activities, cultural immersion, and breathtaking scenery, making it one of the most anticipated experiences of our trip.
Before booking, we were a bit hesitant about doing this with a baby. The idea of sandstorms, rough terrain, and a long excursion with a little one felt like a challenge. But in the end, we’re so glad we went for it! We didn’t leave anything out just because we had a baby with us. Instead of skipping the adventure, we opted for a 4-seater buggy so that our little one could experience the desert ride with us in a safe and comfortable way.

Afternoon – Quad Biking & Buggy Ride Across the Sinai Desert
Our adventure began with a hotel pickup in the early afternoon. After a short drive, we arrived at the quad biking center, where we were greeted by the friendly team from Square Safari.
Highlights of the Desert Ride:
- Safety Briefing & Gear – We were given a comprehensive safety briefing, and helmets were provided. The guides made sure we were comfortable with the controls before setting off.
- Quad Biking Thrill – While most of the group rode single or double quad bikes, we had the option to rent a 4-seater buggy, making it possible to bring our baby along safely!
- Muslin Cloth = The Real MVP – The desert can be extremely dusty, but having a large muslin cloth saved the day. We used it to shield the baby from the sand, covering her stroller when stationary and wrapping it around her when moving. It worked perfectly to keep her comfortable throughout the ride.
- Photo Stops – We paused at several scenic locations to admire the rugged mountain views and endless golden dunes, capturing some amazing family photos.
Even with a baby in tow, this part of the experience was completely manageable—and beyond exciting!
Evening – Bedouin Camp Experience
As the sun began to set, we rode our buggy toward a traditional Bedouin camp, tucked away in the heart of the desert.
What Made the Bedouin Camp Special:
- Warm Bedouin Welcome – Upon arrival, we were greeted with freshly brewed Bedouin tea and had time to relax on floor cushions while soaking in the peaceful atmosphere.
- Camel Riding – A true desert adventure wouldn’t be complete without a camel ride. Even though we had done this before, there was something magical about riding a camel as the sun dipped behind the dunes.
- Dinner Under the Stars – The meal was freshly prepared Bedouin-style, featuring grilled meats, salads, rice, and traditional flatbread. Sitting under the open sky, enjoying simple but delicious food, was a moment to remember.
- Traditional Music & Dance – As we finished dinner, the camp came to life with drumming, belly dancing, and local Bedouin performances. The energy was contagious, and it was the perfect way to end the evening.
Having a baby at the camp was surprisingly easy—there were cozy seating areas, soft blankets, and enough space for her to comfortably crawl around without getting overwhelmed.
Stargazing – A Celestial Finale
After the performances, we joined a stargazing session, which was the perfect way to end the night.
- Astronomy Talk – A guide shared stories about the constellations, planets, and stars visible in the clear desert sky.
- Telescope Viewing – Using a high-powered telescope, we got an up-close look at planets and distant galaxies.
- A Moment of Silence – For a few minutes, we just lay back and looked up at the sky, completely mesmerized by how vast and beautiful the universe felt from this quiet corner of the desert.
The silence, the clear sky, and the feeling of being completely away from the modern world made this one of the most magical moments of the trip.
Was This Worth Doing With a Baby?
Absolutely! Beforehand, we were worried about:
- Too much sand – But using a large muslin cloth to cover her in the buggy worked perfectly. No sandstorms in the face, no discomfort—just a cozy, protected ride.
- The heat – The camp had shaded areas, and the desert actually cooled down significantly in the evening.
- The long excursion – She napped comfortably in the desert breeze, and the slow pace of the evening made it very manageable.
Would we do it again? 100% yes. Square Safari made sure everything was well-organized, safe, and enjoyable for all ages.
Booking Info & How to Experience It Yourself

Final Thoughts on the Day
This desert safari was the perfect blend of thrill, cultural immersion, and natural beauty. We left with unforgettable memories of racing through the dunes, sharing tea with the Bedouins, and watching the stars in complete silence.
Doing it with a baby was an unexpected success, and we’re so glad we didn’t let hesitation stop us from experiencing this once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
The 4-seater buggy was a game-changer, and our muslin cloth quite literally saved the day.
Day 7 & 8: El Fanar Beach & Del Mar Beach Lounge – Our Favorite Discovery
After nearly a week of exploring, we decided to spend our last two days at El Fanar Beach and Del Mar Beach Lounge, embracing the beauty of the Red Sea one final time before heading back to the UK.

Day 7 – Our First Visit to El Fanar Beach (and Our Biggest Regret)
We had initially planned to explore different beaches, but after a recommendation from our trusted driver and friend, Horas, we decided to check out El Fanar Beach—and we’re so glad we did!
If you’re looking for a reliable driver in Sharm El Sheikh, someone great with kids and who knows the best local spots, we highly recommend Horas. You can reach him at +20 101 590 2102.
What You Need to Know About El Fanar Beach & Del Mar Beach Lounge
El Fanar Beach and Del Mar Beach Lounge are not separate locations—Del Mar is part of the El Fanar area. You go through the entrance gate, and from there, you access both.
💡 Important: There is a $3 USD per person access fee for El Fanar Beach. We weren’t sure if you could enter without paying, but based on what we saw, the entrance applies to both the beach and lounge area.
Our Plan (and What We Regretted)
We weren’t sure what to expect, so we only brought our DJI water camera, thinking we’d just chill if there was space for that, or snorkel if we could.
We left all of our professional photography and videography gear back at the resort.
Big mistake.
The moment we got there, we realized we had found one of the most beautiful places of our entire trip.
What Makes El Fanar Beach Special?
- Crystal-Clear Water – Even compared to other beaches in Sharm El Sheikh, the water at El Fanar was exceptionally clear, making it perfect for snorkeling and swimming.
- Fantastic Snorkeling – The coral reef here is among the best in Sharm, and you can access it directly from the shore.
- A Peaceful Escape – Unlike resort beaches, El Fanar felt much more intimate—no overcrowded sunbeds or loud music, just relaxation.
- Cozy Seating – The lounge-style seating with cushions and shaded areas made it an easy place to unwind.
- Kid-Friendly, but Not a Typical Sandy Beach – There isn’t much sand, but that didn’t stop the kids from having fun, splashing in the shallow water and making up their own games.
- Shisha & Drinks – We ended up ordering a shisha, and it was really good—so if that’s something you enjoy, Del Mar Beach Lounge is a great place for it.
We spent the whole day snorkeling, enjoying drinks, chatting with the staff, relaxing with shisha, and having fun as a family—including the grandparents, who also joined us.
It was one of those accidental perfect days.
By the end of the day, we knew we had to come back.
Day 8 – Returning With All Our Gear
With only a few hours before flying home, we decided to return to El Fanar Beach in the morning—this time, with all of our creative gear in tow.

- Brought our professional cameras to capture the beauty of the place.
- Filmed our snorkeling experience properly—the reef is something you need to see up close!
- Soaked in every last moment, appreciating the tranquility of the beach and the warmth of the people we had met the day before.

Final Reflections on Our Time in Sharm El Sheikh
From our first beach day to our last sunset, this trip was about making memories, embracing new experiences, and letting the journey unfold naturally.
Would we return? Without a doubt.
And next time, we’ll be back at El Fanar with our cameras in hand, right from the start.
Special Moment: Bennett’s First Snorkeling Experience
One of the most unforgettable moments of our entire trip happened right at El Fanar Beach—our son’s first real snorkeling experience.
At the beginning of the trip, he had been curious but hesitant about snorkeling. He loved the water but wasn’t sure about putting his face underwater, breathing through a snorkel, or being so close to the fish.
That all changed on our last day.
How His Grandfather Helped Him Overcome His Fear
Sometimes, all it takes is a little patience and encouragement from someone he trusts.
With his grandfather by his side, guiding him step by step:
✔️ First, just floating with the mask on.
✔️ Then, dipping his face in for a few seconds at a time.
✔️ Finally, taking those first few breaths underwater.
And then it happened—his first real glimpse of the underwater world.
The Moment Everything Changed
The first fish he spotted was small, colorful, and swimming just beneath him. His eyes widened with excitement, he surfaced to tell us, then immediately dove back in.
It was pure joy.
For the next hour, he couldn’t get enough—pointing at fish, chasing bubbles, and experiencing the magic of snorkeling for the first time.
Why This Became the Highlight of Our Trip
As parents, these are the moments we live for—the times when our children push past their fears, step into the unknown, and come out stronger and more confident.
And the fact that his grandfather was the one to help him take that step? Even more special.
First-Time Snorkeling Tips for Kids
✔️ Start in shallow, calm water where they can stand if needed.
✔️ Let them practice with just the mask before adding the snorkel.
✔️ Encourage small steps and let them go at their own pace.
✔️ Stay close and make it fun—point out fish, play games, and keep them engaged.
✔️ A good quality safety vest is a no-brainer. We made sure to purchase one with a secure belt between the legs, which made all the difference. It gave him the confidence to venture into deeper water for the first time while keeping him safe.
It was the perfect way to end our time in Sharm El Sheikh.
